Hanuman Chalisa Meaning - Calpod

The Hanuman Chalisa is a hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman, who is revered as a symbol of strength, courage, and devotion in Hindu mythology. It consists of 40 verses, or chaupais, which are recited by devotees to seek the blessings of Lord Hanuman.


Here are the English translations of each of the shlokas in the Hanuman Chalisa:

  1. Shri Guru Charan Saroj Raj: I bow to the lotus feet of my Guru

  2. Nij mane mukure sudhar: I clean my mirror in the hope of a glimpse of my Lord

  3. Barnau Raghuvar Bimal jasu: I sing the pure glory of Lord Rama, the best of the Raghu dynasty

  4. Jo dayaku phal char: He who bestows the four fruits of life: dharma, artha, kama and moksha

  5. Budhi heen tanu janike: I acknowledge my foolishness and lack of intellect

  6. Sumirau pawan kumar bal budhi vidya dehu mohe: O Son of the Wind, please bless me with strength, wisdom, and knowledge

  7. Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar: Victory to Hanuman, the ocean of knowledge and virtues

  8. Jai Kapis tihun lok ujagar: Victory to the Monkey God, who illuminates the three worlds

  9. Ram doot atulit bal dhamaa: The messenger of Lord Rama, who possesses immeasurable strength

  10. Anjani-putra Pavan sut namaa: The son of Anjana, who is also known as the son of the Wind God

  11. Mahavir Vikram Bajrangi: The great warrior, whose valor and strength are unparalleled

  12. Kumati nivar sumati Ke sangi: He who destroys wickedness and aligns us with good intentions

  13. Kanchan baran viraj subesa: He whose golden complexion is radiant and beautiful

  14. Kanan kundal kunchit kesha: His ears adorned with beautiful earrings, and hair tied up in a bun

  15. Haath bajra aur dhvaja biraje: He holds a mace and a flag, symbolizing his strength and victory

  16. Shankar suvan kesari nandan: The son of Kesari and the devotee of Lord Shiva

  17. Tej prataap maha jag vandan: Whose radiance and power are praised by the entire world

  18. Vidyavaan guni ati chatur: Who is learned, virtuous, and extremely intelligent

  19. Ram kaj karibe ko aatur: Who is always eager to serve Lord Rama

  20. Prabhu charitra sunibe ko rasiya: Who delights in listening to the glories of Lord Rama

  21. Ram Lakhan Sita man basyia: Who resides in the hearts of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita

  22. Sukshma roop dhari Siyahi dikhawa: Who showed his subtle form to Sita in the Ashoka grove

  23. Bikat roop dhari lanka jarawa: Who assumed a terrifying form and destroyed Lanka

  24. Bhim roop dhari asur sanhare: Who assumed a giant form and destroyed the demons

  25. Ramchandra ke kaaj sanware: Who fulfilled the tasks of Lord Rama

  26. Laaye Sanjivan Lakhan Jiyaye: Who brought the Sanjivani herb to revive Lakshmana

  40. Rupa Gosvami Pada Yuga Laagi: Hanuman, the servant of Lord Rama, always remains at the lotus feet of his guru, Sri Rupa Gosvami. By reciting the Hanuman Chalisa, one can attain the blessings of Lord Hanuman and achieve success in all endeavors.
